Introduction

Dr. Carlos Parra, born and raised in Barcelona, Spain, is a highly accomplished professional in the field of dentistry. He graduated from Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC) in Barcelona, Spain, in 2009, where he obtained his dental degree. Following his graduation, Dr. Parra pursued a Clinical Residency in Periodontology at UIC from 2009 to 2010, further enhancing his skills and knowledge in this specialized area.

Driven by a passion for teaching and sharing his expertise, Dr. Parra served as a pre-doctoral clinical instructor at UIC from 2011 to 2012, imparting his extensive knowledge to aspiring dental professionals. During this period, he actively engaged in research on oropharyngeal dysphagia and oral hygiene, contributing to advancements in the field.

With three years of dental practice experience in Barcelona, Spain, from 2009 to 2012, Dr. Parra honed his clinical skills and gained valuable hands-on experience. In 2012, he embarked on a new phase of his education, pursuing a Certificate in Periodontics at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. He successfully completed his studies in 2015, further solidifying his expertise in periodontics.

Dr. Parra’s outstanding achievements have garnered recognition within the dental community. In November 2015, he was appointed as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Periodontics at Texas A&M School of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas. His exceptional performance on the 2016 American Board of Periodontology Oral Examination earned him the prestigious Leslie M. Salkin Award during the 102nd Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP). Dr. Parra has also been honored with the American Academy Foundation Fellowship to the Institute for Teaching and Learning (ITL) in Health Professions and the Bud & Linda Tarrson Fellowship Award.

In September 2021, Dr. Parra’s expertise and leadership were recognized as he was appointed as the Graduate Program Director of the Department of Periodontology at Texas A&M University. Since 2022, he has also served as an Oral Examiner for the American Board of Periodontology, contributing to the evaluation and advancement of dental professionals in the field.

Dr. Parra’s influence extends beyond his clinical practice and academic roles. He is a highly sought-after speaker, delivering lectures on periodontics at national and international conferences. His primary areas of interest lie in soft tissue enhancement and dental implants, where he continually seeks to expand knowledge and explore innovative techniques.
